This will be the first Spring Fair planning meeting. The Spring Fair is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Money raised pays for school supplies, field trips, enrichment activities such as drama, dance and visual arts programs, and other opportunities. There are countless ways you can help – both big and small. Please join us and learn more about how we can make the 2018 Spring Fair our most successful yet.
Childcare will be available. And pizza too.

Kids Helping Kids Projects

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The KHK club are working on a few projects and are seeking donations to help local charities. Three students are doing a presentation and short play in classrooms today to promote the services that the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) does. Another group of students did presentations in classrooms yesterday about BC Children’s Hospital and will be asking students for donations next week. Both groups have ambitious goals to raise $100 for each charity. A third group is also doing a garage sale of used toys and books in the gym at lunchtime on Thursday, Feb. 13th. The money that they raise will also go to BC Children’s Hospital. Students can purchase used toys and books for prices from 25 cents to $1.25. Please send money with your child in a labelled envelope to support any of these projects.

Two other groups are working on short skits to perform in classrooms. These are still works in progress. Additionally, the whole club will be working on a performance for our Day of Pink on Feb. 26th. Some students are working on script writing with me while others will be performing, making posters and doing narration for the play.

The students are quite excited about these projects and we appreciate your support of their social justice projects.

James Chamberlain, Vice principal

Our donation in honour of James D

james_photoOur daughter, Sydney, is a Kindergarten student in Mrs. Wilkes’ class. We have lived in the Mountain View community for the last five years. Sydney is the older sister to her two brothers: Trevor, a recent addition to our family, is almost 5 months and we plan for him to attend McBride Annex; and James who was taken to Heaven when he was only 17 months old.  James had epilepsy and passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on April 3rd, 2011. It was a very difficult time for us, but the sense of community here in Mountain View and the support we got from our neighbours and friends was a big help to our family.

That sense of community has carried into our experiences at McBride Annex – it is a very special school made up of wonderful people. We had been thinking for some time about a formal way to remember James and we feel that the playground project is a fitting way to honour our son’s memory. James was a boisterous and adventurous little man.  He loved playing in the park with his sister and other friends, many of whom are also now students at McBride Annex or will be in the days to come.

With the support of our family and friends we are so pleased to donate the additional funds needed to have the playground built this Spring and extremely thankful to have it dedicated to James. We also wanted to thank Mr. Chamberlain and the PAC who have been so very understanding and supportive of our wishes.
